Michael Braidwood

Title

General Manager

A Certified Club Manager and Advanced Fellow of the PGA. Michael’s previous experiences have seen him hold the following positions: Director of Education for the Club Managers Association of Europe (2014 – 2017) where he was responsible for the delivery of their club education programmes and two levels of certification: the Club Management Diploma and Certified Club Manager, Operations Director for Braemar Golf Developments (2010 – 2014), where he was responsible for all of Braemar Golf’s projects that were operational, and this saw him working on projects in Russia, Bulgaria, Bahrain, Oman and the UK. Prior to that, Michael was the CEO of Bahrain International Golf Course Company (2008 – 2010) overseeing four business units and representing their interests in the Riffa Views development project. Before being promoted to CEO, Michael was General Manager of the Riffa Golf Club, Bahrain (1998 – 2008).

Mohammed Al Naimi

Title

Deputy General Manager

Mohammed holds a Higher Diploma in Physical Education from University of Semmelweis Budapest, Hungary, a Diploma in Special Education from Qatar University, and Bachelor of Science in Education Major in Physical Education from University of Qatar. Mohammed held various positions as Stage Manager, Competition Manager for Gymnastics in the Asian Games in Doha, General Secretary of the Asian Gymnastics Union, Executive Director and General Secretary of Qatar Gymnastics Federation and became part of the organizing team of an International Event – the Qatar Modern Pentathlon: Champion of Champions where he was awarded the Thanaa Award. He then assumed the role of Recreation Services Manager at Qatar Foundation where he was responsible for raising the profile and standards of Recreation Services before being promoted to the role of Director of Community Affairs in Qatar Foundation.

Rhys Beecher

Title

Director of Golf

Rhys has been involved with the project since 2015. Rhys holds degrees in both Professional Golf from Birmingham University (UK) and Global Business Management, as well as a further diploma in Sports Management Golf both from Bournemouth University. Rhys is a member of the Club Managers Association of Europe and achieved a Club Managers Diploma in 2017, whilst progressing through the Management Development pathway. As a PGA professional, Rhys achieved Advanced Professional status in 2016, whilst also graduating through the PGA Director of Golf Programme. Rhys spent nine years (2006-2015) at The Address Montgomerie, Dubai a premium golf resort set within Dubai’s exclusive Emirates Hills. In addition to experience within the Middle East Region, Rhys previously worked at both Royal Porthcawl Golf Club and The Celtic Manor Resort, Wales. Host to the 2010 Ryder Cup. Rhys is married with three daughters (Chloe, Alexis and Carys).

Nico-James Visser

Title

Golf Operations Manager

Nico-James Visser is a fully qualified PGA Professional accredited from the PGA of South-Africa. He is the Golf operations manager looking after guest experience and the operations of the golf course. He completed his apprenticeship at Saadiyat Beach and Abu Dhabi Golf Club in the UAE where he was in charge of the Golf Operations teams for both the Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies Open a Ladies European Tour event and the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship a Male European Tour Championship. He has been working in the middle east since 2013 and has gained extensive knowledge on creating a leading 5 star golfing experience. Prior to working in the Mena region he was based at Fancourt in South-Africa as The Golf Academy Supervisor. He took up golf at the age of 5years old following in his father’s footsteps of becoming a Golf Professional. Hobbies include: Rugby, Fishing, Golf and Cricket

Darren Smith

Title

Course Superintendant

Darren an Australian Citizen originally from New Zealand moved to Australia in the late 1980’s where he gained his Golf Course Management Qualifications and from there has honed his skills on both pre and post opening of golf courses in Australia. Having moved to the Middle East in 2001 his experience now spans nearly 15 years in the region. Darren spent 11 years with EMAAR PROPERTIES PJSC, Arabian Ranches Golf & Polo Club Dubai, where he was working as the Emaar Area Golf Course Manager overseeing the construction component for their international and local properties throughout the UAE, KSA and Egypt. He was also tasked with the responsibility of the Landscaping Division for Emaar Address Hotels during his time with Emaar. Darren joined Qatar International Golf Club in 2013 during the early stages of the project and during the construction period will be responsible for overseeing the golf course construction.

Andrew Ikstrums

Title

Deputy Superintendant

Andrew is an Australian Citizen coming from Bundaberg Queensland, Australia. Bundaberg was where his career started in 2009 at the Bundaberg Golf Club. At the completion of his apprenticeship in 2011 in sports turf management he was awarded apprentice of the year. Moving to the Gold Coast, Queensland in 2012. He worked at Emerald Lakes Golf Club, before moving to Glades Golf Club in late 2012. The Glades in renounced as one of Greg Normans master pieces having cool season A4 Bentgrass putting greens in a hot tropically summer climate. This is where he honed in his turf management career being promoted to Assistant Superintendent in 2013 - 2018. Having a love and passion for both turf grass and the game of golf playing off +1 handicap, Andrew gives not only a turf managers prospective but a golfers prospective on the golf course. He is eager to continue to learn, improve himself and help grow the game he loves. His hobbies include: Golf, Rugby, BBQ’s, Family and Friends

David White

Director of Sales & Marketing

David holds a Degree in Sports Management along with a Foundation Degree in professional Golf with the PGA & Birmingham University. David has also graduated through the PGA Director of Golf Programme and Club Managers Association of Europe. Achieving and the Club Managers Diploma in 2018. David has previously lived in Oman. There, he was working at Muscat Hills Golf & Country Club as the Operations Manager and Sales & Marketing Manager. David then furthered his career in the banking sector supporting the National Bank of Oman in their Sponsorships, marketing and events specifically looking after the NBO Golf Classic and other marketing services at NBO. From 2014 – 2018, David was pivotal in the promoting and organizing the NBO Golf Classic (Challenge Tour). Due to the successful event the tournament was upgraded multiple times by becoming the Challenge Tour Grand Final including the Road to Oman rankings and the European Tour NBO Oman Open in 2017

Anthony Caira

A Certified Club Manager, PGA Director of Golf and a Fellow of the PGA. Anthony heads up the Center of Excellence having gained two decades of experience from his two previous positions in Scotand being the Director of Golf at Kirriemuir Golf Club and General Manager of Kirkcaldy Golf Club. Although Anthonys true passion lies in teaching and his ultimate aim is to build an elite team of Professionals to grow the game in Qatar and develop as many people both young and old into the sport. He firmly believes the big secret is built around a holistic foundation of learning nine key competencies. Anthony is certified by the Titleist Performance Institute for fitness, specializes in golf nutrition and Time Management for Golf. Anthony is married to Donna with two daughters, Julia and Olivia. He is the consummate sportsman, loves playing squash in particular, but has become particularly fond of a run round Oxygen Park.

Helena Martins

Membership Manager

Helena discovered her passion for the golf industry while taking a degree in Hotel Management by University of Algarve. After a 6 month internship at San Lorenzo Golf Club (in Algarve, Portugal ) and a post- graduation in Golf Course Management, Helena embarked on a journey that would take her to China for a Golf Operations Management internship at the amazing Mission Hills China. After two years learning and working with tournaments, daily golf operations and giving training, she returned to Portugal, where she worked at Pestana Vila Sol golf. Believing in continuous development, she has attended several international programs like “The Global Village for Future leaders in Business and Industry” at Lehigh University, USA and also completed all trainings from the Club Managers Association of Europe, achieving the Club Managers Diploma. Helena enjoys learning languages and playing golf.

Rachel Choi

Rachel has been a member of the PGA of America since graduating with a professional golf management degree at the University of Idaho in 2015. Since the start of her career, her experiences include roles in private, resort, and administrative facilities. The highlights of her university internships are a summer at the PGA Headquarters in Palm Beach, Florida as a member of the Player Development team as well as working as the Junior Golf Director at the Western New York PGA Section where she ran over 40 junior and professional events. After 3 years as an assistant professional at Broadmoor Golf Club in Seattle, she decided to pursue a more teaching focused career and went overseas to the Els Performance Golf Academy in Hanoi, Vietnam. Her love for teaching has brought her to Education City Golf Club where she hopes she can continue to help golfers be the best they can be. Rachel is fluent in English and Korean.
